Overview

Moonlight Basin is located just an hour south of Bozeman on Lone Mountain in Big Sky, Montana and opened for skiing in 2003 as the first destination ski resort in the U.S. in 20 years. It has grown into a first-class, year-round destination resort. Skiing at Moonlight Basin offers 80 mapped trails, chutes and glades, making more than 1,900 skiable acres with a vertical drop of 4,150'. The terrain is served by 7 lifts, including Montana's first high-speed, six-passenger chair. At Moonlight Basin you'll have lots of elbow room - short or no lift lines and no crowds. Plus, the terrain's northerly exposure ensures the more than 400 inches of powder that falls each year stays light and dry.

Terrrain

Pick your pleasure. Moonlight Basin has something for everyone. The lower mountain boasts long, gentle groomers - perfect for kids and beginners - that wrap skiers and riders in 360 degree views of Lone Mountain, the Spanish Peaks and the Madison Valley. The area serviced by the Lone Tree Quad gives intermediate and advanced skiers plenty of powder-filled glades and steeps.

For the experts, the Headwaters Chair will bring skiers and riders into The Headwaters terrain - some of the steepest inbounds terrain in the Rockies previously only accessible by hiking. This chairlift services nearly a dozen chutes on a massive glacial cirque. Future expansion plans include 3,500 acres and 12 lifts, positioning Moonlight as an attractive addition to Montana's ski areas.

Moonlight Basin and Big Sky Resort have teamed up to offer joint lift tickets. Now, skiers and riders can access over 5,500 acres of interconnected trails and lifts - all with one ticket.

Activities

But skiing is not the only activity that makes Moonlight Basin unique - there's plenty to do, on and off the slopes. Visitors can enjoy spa treatments, a health club, dogsledding, snowshoe tours, ice-skating, and swimming in a heated outdoor pool. A concierge service is available to arrange a variety of local activities, including tours of Yellowstone National Park (located just 50 miles from Moonlight Basin), fly fishing, cross-country ski
