Sebastian Inlet Vacation Home Rentals

Overview

Located on narrow barrier islands extending north and south of Sebastian Inlet, this recreation area offers three miles of beachfront along the Atlantic Ocean while offering the estuarine waters of Indian River along the backside. In 1924, Sebastian Inlet was created. Some 40 years later, the A1A bridge was built. Stabilizing the inlet, two rock jetties flank the access point. As a result of the jetties, some of the best east coast surfing is known to be located here. Surfers use the beach north of the jetties while swimmers use the beach farther north. Having designated areas keeps accidents to a minimum.

Recreation

Sebastian Inlet State Park is a developed site. A restaurant and gift shop overlooks the fabulous turquoise waters, while bait shops and concessionaires offer gear and beach apparel. However, wildlife is not forgotten at Sebastian Inlet. Across A1A on the west side of the park, visitors can relax along the shallow and calm waters of Indian River. This side of the park not only attracts shore anglers but also a profusion of birds. Another great reason for venturing away from the Atlantic and over to Indian River is for the wading pool, ideal for small children.

Boaters will find a dock, picnic area and full-service marina along the south side of Sebastian Inlet. Swimmers looking for fewer crowds can venture southbound along the Atlantic near McLarty Treasure Museum. Few amenities are offered; therefore, fewer people are attracted to this stretch of beach. Surf fishing and beachcombing is usually fairly rewarding.

Visitors to Sebastian Inlet State Recreation Area will find plenty to keep busy. Recreations include surfing, scuba diving, snorkeling, surf fishing, sunbathing, swimming, hiking, launching a boat, canoeing, and camping. Nature programs and two museums tell about the area's lush history and rich wildlife.
