Recreation

Located at the heart of the Inyo National Forest, Mammoth Ranger District is centered on the town of Mammoth Lakes. A multitude of recreation locations can be reached within a ten-mile drive of Mammoth Lakes. A ranger station, visitor center, and RV park lie just outside of the town. Opportunities for backpacking, camping, stock packing, boat launching, water play, and winter sports lie in the vicinity. The John Muir Wilderness can also be accessed from this Ranger District.

Recreation opportunities in the Mammoth include but are not limited to boat launching, water play, and winter sports. All lie within an easy drive of the town of Mammoth Lakes.

This ranger district centers on the town of Mammoth Lakes. It abuts the Sierra National Forest to the west and is bisected by US Hwy. 395.
